TIART – A Running Wish

December 4, 2008

So that’s the theme for this week’s TIART. Let’s see. Funny things, dreams and wishes. They change so fast. A year ago, my dream would have been to just run. Now I’m training (again) for my first marathon.

I’m easy to please when it comes to running. I just want to run. Yesterday I was looking at a map when I realized the city that borders mine is just 7 miles away. My brain started going. I want to run there, eat breakfast and run back.

The breakfast part is important. So many of my plans revolve around eating. That’s a good thing right? Then I started looking at my schedule. I’m thinking the last weekend of December, first weekend of January I’m going to do this run. It’s not a terribly long run, but I’m doing a slow build with my mileage and I don’t want to do anything stupid.

So how does this go to my running wish/dream? Simple. My dream is to be able to pick places on the map and run there. I want to be strong enough to do long runs whenever I want. I want to wake up on a Sunday with a map in hand and hit the door running.

There are tons of races I’d love to do, but so much of running for me is just getting out on the open road and listening to my feet thud on the pavement. Where I end up is where I end up.

I told you I’m easy to please.

  1. I like picking destinations on the map and running to them too! Although sometimes i dont like having to run back! I like to get picked up!!

  2. I love the idea of being able to run places. Running is good enough on its own, of course, but knowing it can literally take me places– the next town over, my favorite coffee shop– is pretty darned cool.

  3. sounds like a Garmin would be a great gift for you:) i like this idea– just pick a place and go– :) what’s on the breakfast menu?! :)

  4. i’ll meet you there. i may be done eating breakfast by the time you arrive, but i’ll wait for you. :)

  5. Awesome wish. I run to a town near my house that is about 5.5 miles away and eat breakfast with my brother-in-law and then run back. I enjoy this run more than any of my other ones.

  6. That would be cool to be blindfolded and to just randomly pick a spot to run!

  7. just wait until you hear the sound of trails under your feet…
